Under this extension several changes have been made to the original Crematory Regulations Act (410 ILCS 18/) that will affect your business. Below is a quick outline of those changes and requirements:
- New expiration for licenses every 5-years with a $100 renewal fee;
- Addition of $100 inspection fee;
- Requirement of two-hour continuing education course every five years for crematory operators, and;
- A crematory shall not take possession of unembalmed human remains that cannot be cremated within 24 hours unless it provides or maintains either of the following capable of maintaining a temperature of less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit: an operable refrigeration unit, with cleanable, noncorrosive interior and exterior finishes, or a suitable cooling room.
Crematory license renewals are expected to begin in 2024, you will be notified by the Illinois Office of the Comptroller of the new expiration date for the licenses.
