IFDA offers a Resume Service to assist licensed funeral directors and/or embalmers and licensed trainees in job placement. Persons seeking employment may send copies of their resume to IFDA. IFDA maintains a list of member funeral homes which wish to receive resumes. The resumes of prospective applicants are forwarded to each of these firms. A funeral home may call at any time to request copies of resumes.
How do I place my resume with the IFDA resume service?
Prepare 50 copies of your resume. A resume length of no more than 2 pages is recommended.
Send to:
IFDA Resume Service
Attn: Mary Carey
P.O. Box 7127
Springfield, IL 62791
We suggest you send a blind cover letter along with your 1-2 page resume.
Is there a fee for this service?
Licensed funeral directors and/or embalmers must send a $50 deposit with their resumes.
Licensed trainees must send a $5 deposit with their resumes.
This deposit is completely refundable. IFDA will return the deposit as long as the applicant notifies IFDA within 10 days of accepting employment or notifies us that he/she no longer wishes to have his/her resume included in the file.
Is there specific information that I should include in my resume?
Be sure to include a phone number or e-mail where prospective employers can easily
reach you.
Indicate whether or not you will accept a position in any part of the state.
Can persons seeking employment obtain a list of firms seeking employees and write to the firm directly?
No. IFDA will forward all resumes to prospective employers.
How long will my resume remain in the IFDA Resume File?
Resumes remain in the IFDA file for 3 months. Resumes will then automatically be removed from the active resume file. If you wish your resume to continue to be sent out to prospective employers, you must call or write IFDA and request that your resume remain in the active file.
Can I request that my resume not be sent to certain firms?
IFDA sends all resumes to any IFDA firm which requests them. However, we will not send a resume to an applicant’s current employer if the applicant so requests. Nor will we send a resume to anyone the individual requests it not be sent to.
Is there a number to call for additional information?
Yes. Call 800-240-4332, and ask for Mary Carey or e-mail mcarey@ifda.org.
